The Commissioner of the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service, Emmanuel Doku, says the challenges facing customs administration today require re-orientation of its training needs for officers to embrace their roles as agents of change.
He said the service is investing in training a new crop of officers that understand the dynamics of international trade, the growing threat to International global supply chain and the new role of customs.
Mr. Doku was closing a five day seminar for customs officers in Accra. The seminar focused on Land Border enforcement organized by the US customs and border Protection Agency. He pointed out that the World Customs Organization encourages new forms of international relations and experience sharing as part of building the capacity of developing countries.
He applauded the excellent relations between the two services and hoped this will create other opportunities for continues improvement in training.
A representative of the US Ambassador to Ghana, Jillien Frumkin Bonnardeaux recognized the crucial role played by CEPS in maintaining Ghana's Security and economic prosperity and hoped the training will help strengthen the country"s institutions and system that fight corruption. Participants were taken through behaviour analysis skills for detecting high risk cargo and terrorism.
