An aspiring first-time voter, Nii Ayi Tagoe, reveals he may skip his chance to vote because he believes no political party genuinely prioritises the nation’s progress.
“I don’t trust any politician,” Nii Ayi told Joy News PM Express.
“We are all in this together, and we will all suffer. The politicians think they are at the top and everyone else is below them, but we are all feeling the heat. Whether they sit in AC and we sit in the sun, we are all suffering.”
Nii Ayi, a 20-year-old student, voiced his frustration, highlighting how the grassroots do the hard work to keep politicians in power but are neglected in return.
He stated that politicians must focus on national development to ensure equitable distribution of resources.
“If I’m on the lower level suffering and you think you are at the higher grounds, you still have to descend to my level because you need my help one day,” he warned.
He cautioned public servants and politicians who view their positions as a birthright, predicting a time when those at the grassroots would refuse to empower anyone.
“We will take the power into our hands and govern ourselves. People will keep asking when that time will be, but I assure you, the time will come with the rate things are going.”
Reflecting on recent violence in Kenya, where medics reported 23 deaths after police clashed with protesters, Nii Ayi urged Ghanaian leaders to learn from Kenya’s turmoil.

President William Ruto had to withdraw a proposed tax increase due to intense public pressure following the violence.
“Yes, people have lost their lives, but as soon as they stood up, something was done,” he noted, suggesting that Ghanaian leaders must heed these warnings to avoid a similar fate.
