The Chiefs and people of the Chereponi Traditional Area have expressed their gratitude to President John Agyekum Kufuor and the government for the creation of a new district for their area.
The Chereponi District, which was carved out of the Saboba/Chereopni District, is one of the newly created districts in the country.
Munkaila Abubakari Baba, the Regent of Chereponi, led a delegation including Madam Doris Seidu, Member of Parliament for the area and Mr Azumah N. Sanda, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the former Saboba/Chereponi District, to express their gratitude to the President through the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris in Tamale on Monday.
Regent Baba said the creation of a separate district for the area would open it up for investors to tap its potential for rapid development.
He pledged to ensure unity among the various ethnic groups in the area to enhance development.
Regent Baba said he would collaborate with the chiefs to assist the new district assembly and help mobilise revenue, adding that, he would ensure the people honour their tax obligations to promote the socio-economic development of the new district.
He also pledged to mobilise the people to undertake self-help projects.
Alhaji Idris said the creation of the new district had come with a lot of opportunities and challenges and urged the people to remain united and not to allow differences over the appointment of a new DCE for the area to divide them.
He said it was important that they rally behind whoever would be appointed as the DCE and give him all the necessary support and advice to enable him to discharge his duties efficiently.Source: GNA
