National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu is asking for a presidential intervention in unraveling the mystery surrounding the alleged baby theft at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The hospital maintains the baby died at birth but cannot produce the body. This angered some youth from a Zongo community in Kumasi last week who stormed the hospital and assaulted nurses and doctors while demanding the body of the baby. The doctors on Friday ended a strike they embarked on after the attack.
Sheikh Sharubutu who visited the family of the missing baby exhorted them to remain calm.
He quoted portions of the Holy Qu’ran to buttress his call, and asked them to consider the event as a test from Allah.
Gado Mohammed, who speaks for the Chief of Imam, told Luv News Sheikh Sharubutu “feels that the whole thing is rather unfortunate, because naturally, the woman will feel aggrieved and not only her but her relations”.
He described the issue as an “emotive one”, warning it could “inflame people and push people to do something that they did not plan”.
He therefore prayed efforts are intensified to find the body, stressing “there would be a closure if the body is produced”.
The grandmother of the baby said the family has exercised restraint, but prayed the investigators are able to establish the whereabouts of the baby even if it has to take them years to do so.
