The Paramount Chief of Akporsor in the Biakoye District of the Volta Region Nana Okitikpo III and his son, Ameye Nicholas were shot last night in front of his palace at Apesorkubi.
Nicolas was killed instantly while the paramount chief survived the attack with injuries. The District Chief Executive Nana Louis Akata attributes the situation to negligence on the part of the Police.
According to him, the police failed to respond to the security threats in the area and he therefore called for a swift response from the military to avert the situation.
Speaking to Joy News’ Volta Regional correspondent Agbeko Ben Coffie, the DCE said “there are two ethnic groups and the peace officers must be seen to be playing a neutral role and enforce law and order. How can somebody stab another and then he goes scot free?”
He believes if the police do not stop taking sides and carry out their professional duties, the Akporsor’s will be annihilated.
Mr. Akata Louis explained that the problem is as a result of a disagreement between the Akans and the Akporsor's on which ethnic group has the right to organise the festival in the area.
He said the Akporsors are the indigenes and the Akans are the settlers, and the two groups continuously feud over control of activities in the Biakoye District.
