The Northern Region House of Chiefs is to explore and collaborate with peace building institutions to strengthen their capacity in the use of dialogue and mediation as the main options in the resolution of conflicts in the region.
It would also transform the operations of the House to reflect the peculiar needs of the populace and bring peace and prosperity to the people.
This is contained in a communiqué issued by the House after a Special Joint Meeting/Research Committee with the Pacific Institute (TPI) in Seattle, USA.
Na Professor John Nabila, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the House, Kumbun Nayiri Alhaji Iddirisu Abu, Chairman of the Research Committee, signed the communiqué.
Mr. Amadu Ibrahim Zakaria, a representative of the stakeholders in peace building and chairman of the working sub-committee and Mr. J.S. Babinah, the Regional Registrar of the House of Chiefs, also signed the Communiqué.
The TPI is dedicated to helping people reach the fullness of their potentials and teaches universal concepts to assist people change the way they think so that they can change their beliefs and actions.
The objective of the forum was to equip traditional leaders and stakeholders with thinking skills and tools for conflict resolution.
They communiqué said using the Northern Region House of Chiefs as a pilot region, the lessons and experiences learnt would be shared with the other Houses of Chiefs in Ghana in collaboration with the National House of Chiefs.Source: GNA
