A long-standing chieftaincy dispute between two families on Friday resulted in a fatal nocturnal confrontation between supporters of the two factions, leaving two persons dead and about eight others injured at Oshiee near Kokrobite in the Greater Accra Region. The clash also left in its wake a tale of destruction – including 21 houses razed, four vehicles, a canoe as well as two provision stores also burnt. The fighting has also left Oshiee almost a ghost town.Chief Supt. Abdulai Mohammed, Divisional Commander of Kaneshie who confirmed the deaths, told Joy News that the Station Officer of the Kokrobite Police Station received a phone call at about 3:30pm yesterday, informing him of an alleged gun shot by a supporter of the Oshiee faction in the house of a supporter of the opposing faction at Kokrobite, led by one Nii Akrashie. He said following the alleged shooting, supporters of Nii Akrashie also organised men and, armed guns, machetes, clubs and petrol stormed Oshiee to attack their opponents. The police were however able to stop the clash and drive them away, but they regrouped and attacked the people of Oshiee at night, leading to the loss of lives and destructions.Chief Supt. Abdulai Mohammed said the police would patrol the town through the night to avert an escalation of the violence.
