A young couple in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, is devastated over the health of their seven month old daughter, who has been diagnosed with a sickness which has an abnormally swollen head as a symptom.

Little Precious Adusei has a condition, medically known as hydrocephalus, which is said to occur as a result of a build-up of excess fluid in the brain.

Despite the stigma associated with caring for such babies and the high treatment cost, the parents are keen on keeping her, but are struggling to mobilize 2,000 Ghana cedis for surgery.

Such babies are often superstitiously regarded as river babies and usually abandoned at hospitals or in some instances, at river banks.

She cries all day with frequent convulsion attack, a situation, which is impacting negatively on her young parents, who got married two years ago.

Doctors at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital diagnosed the pretty baby with the condition, few weeks after birth.

Surgical specialist, Dr. Kwabena Nsiah Siaw said the only available treatment is what he calls, "Cerebral Spinal Fluid chanting" into the abdomen.

The child's mother, Akua Afriyie, in her early twenties, blamed doctors, who attended to her during ante-natal for failing to hint and counsel her on the baby's condition.
