The Chinese government has promised to build the Cape Coast Stadium free of charge for the people of Ghana. The gesture which is in memory and honour of the late president John Mills who hailed from the region is also to consolidate a relationship between Ghana and China. This was disclosed by President John Mahama during a "Thank You" tour of the Central Region, Friday.“The second project is the famous Cape Coast Stadium. I want to assure you that the financing for the Cape Coast Stadium has been approved by the Chinese government. The design for the stadium has been brought. We have approved it and very soon you will all join me to cut the sod for the Cape Coast Stadium project to commence.“Let me say that the Stadium project is completely free of charge. It is a grant from the Chinese government. It is not a loan. The Chinese government is building it as a gift to the people of Ghana in memory of President John Atta Mills,” President John Mahama said this to an excited crowd made up of market women, traders and residents of Cape Coast.According to the president funds have also been accrued for the construction of the Kotokuraba Market.“As I stand here and speak the document for the Kotokuraba market financing has arrived and it is sitting on my table. It would have been my wish that Prof. himself was alive to sign the documents for the financing.“But I wish to assure you as your son that I will very quickly sign the documents so that the money is made available for the project to take place.“I will come back here and on behalf of Prof. Atta Mills all of us in Cape Coast are going to gather and we shall do the sod cutting ceremony for the market project to also take off.
