Fifteen of the 125 Chinese nationals arrested for illegal mining in the country have been repatriated to China.
The 125 Chinese nationals were arrested for engaging in illegal small scale mining in the Ashanti, Western and Central regions.
Issues about the legal status of the foreigners have been in contention since their alleged raid and arrest by security operatives.
In spite of the bail granted the Chinese nationals with stiff conditions, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Immigration Service Francis Palmdetsi told Joy News’ Francis Abban more are expected to be repatriated, pending the completion of repatriation processes.
Asked how far the GIS had gone with its “house cleaning exercise” following suggestions that some officials may be collaborating with the public to issue fake permits, Francis Palmdetsi said the Manager of HANSOL “who made those allegations has not availed himself for questioning yet”.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) is set to launch investigations into the whole saga.
