The Christian Council has backed calls on the President, John Evans Atta Mills to sanction Deputy Interior Minister, Kobby Acheampong.
Rev. Fred Deegbe, General Secretary of the Christian Council, told Joy News the Council has always admonished people to use language that would promote peace instead of dividing Ghanaians.
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the Deputy Minister’s insulting behaviour and rampant outbursts against his political opponents make nonsense of the President’s admonition against politics of insults.
The NPP wants Mr Acheampong sacked over his recent description of Nana Akufo-Addo as a fruitcake.
General Secretary of the Christian Council Rev. Fred Deegbe says President Mills must take action on the case.
“We have all heard him [President Mills] say [insulting people] is not good enough, it is not good and yet it is coming from his own side, we expect him to take action, call the person to order, rebuke or whatever he wants to do that is the prerogative of the president to do it.
“He himself has had cause to complain about it, so if it is coming from his side, we expect him to comment on it.”
