The Rev. Father Thomas Oppong-Mensah, Parish Priest of the Ejisu-Besease Catholic Parish in the Ejisu Juaben district of Ashanti, has called on Christians to be law-abiding to sustain peace and foster development. He expressed concern about the manner in which some Christians broke the laws of the nation and said it did not speak well of them at all. The advice was contained in a Sunday Homily during a Church Service at Ejisu, “Saint Anthony” Catholic Church. He said; “obeying and respecting the laws of the land forms part of Christianity because Jesus Christ the Saviour, obeyed and respected the laws of his land at that time”. He reminded the congregation that, it was their legal and religious responsibility to protect and uphold the Constitution of Ghana since no one would do it for them. He expressed worry about the way people pass instance justice on suspected criminals without the involvement of security agencies in the communities and describe that as ungodly. Rev. Father Oppong-Mensah noted that at times the act might be passed on an innocent person. He suggested that people handed over all suspects to the Police for the appropriate punishment to be given to them as the law required. He said, “it is ungodly for Christians to disobey the laws that protect them and the society”. The Parish Priest advised them to cultivate the spirit of hard work and desist from “juju” for their survival. He stressed the need for Christians to depend on God for their needs and directions in life, as the three Wise men who paid homage to Christ did to save him from being killed by King Herod. The Rev.
