The Police CID will be inviting former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Youth Organizer, Anthony Abayifa Karbo to answer questions surrounding a leaked tape linked to him.
On the supposed tape, a voice purported to be Anthony Karbo’s was heard making references to a meeting with some mercenaries from Libya, Benin and Liberia whose mission was to assist the NPP in protecting the ballot boxes on December 7.
The former NPP National Youth Organizer and now the NPP Parliamentary candidate for Lawra in the Upper West Region has since distanced himself from the said leaked tape. The Police CID however, wants Mr. Karbo to assist with investigations.
Speaking to Citi News from Lawra, Mr. Karbo confirmed the invitation saying, “yesterday, while in the process of my campaigns. I had a call from the Regional Chairman of my party indicating that the police hierarchy in the region had extended an invitation to me to come by the CID headquarters at my own convenient time; I was wondering what it was and he told me it was in connection with and the so-called concocted fabricated tape that was been put out there by the Ghanaian media.”
According to him, though the Police CID have not officially written to him, the Lawra district Police Commander has informed him [Anthony Karbo], his superiors at the Police Headquarters informed him about the invitation.
Nonetheless, Mr. Karbo said he was unperturbed about the development.
He said: “We are very much on the ground working so hard and we are hoping to win both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in Lawra with a very comfortable margin and I guess that during President Mahama’s tour of the Upper West Region, he might have seen the signs very clear that the NDC cannot win the Lawra seat”.
