The Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana has conveyed its deepest condolences following the tragic loss of eight distinguished Ghanaians in the helicopter crash on 6 August 2025.
In an official statement, the Institute described those who perished as exemplary leaders and professionals, whose dedication and vision were invaluable to the nation’s progress.
“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families, colleagues, and communities affected by this devastating event,” the statement read.
“These individuals were pillars of service, embodying integrity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to Ghana’s development,” it added.
The Institute called on all Ghanaians to honour the memory of the departed through solemn reflection and a renewed dedication to the values they championed.
“May their legacy inspire us to continue striving for national progress and unity,” the statement concluded. “May their souls rest in perfect peace.”
The high-ranking officials were aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter en route to Obuasi on a national assignment when the aircraft plunged into a forest and burst into flames, killing all occupants.
The victims of the tragic crash are:
- Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
- Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment
- Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
- Mr Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafimi Anala
- Flying Officer Twum Ampadu
- Sergeant Ernest Addo
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, announced the tragic news at a press conference and directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the victims.
