The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Ghana is urging the government to address all logistics and transport issues associated with the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement, indicating that they can pose as threats to the trade pact.
Even though the trade agreement has been implemented, President of the institute, Dr. Ebo Hammond says it can only yield the needed results if there exists a coherent supply chain management strategy and implementation plan.
"Because of the Africa Trade Area that has been created, we believe that the entirety of Africa must be wired up in terms of road networks and communication." he said in an interview on the MarketPlace on Joynews.
Dr. Hammond has however commended the President H.E. Nana Akufo Addofor leading the country to win the bid for hosting the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) Secretariat in Ghana, which he says would go a long way to position Ghana as the continent’s financial capital. This will undoubtedly create jobs and boost our intra-African trade.” he added.
With regards to supply chain, the CILT Ghana President says the country and the ECOWAS sub region need a coherent supply chain management strategy and implementation plan.
"It is very important because if you compare the ECOWAS sub region with the Southern African Development Coordinating Council, you'd realise that they are more integrated than in ECOWAS in terms of trade." he said.
