A Former Deputy Minister of Agriculture in the Kufour administration, Mr Clement Eledi, says there is a clear distinction between the ruling National Democratic Congress and the opposition New Patriotic Party going into the 2012 elections as far as their presidential candidates were concerned.Addressing delegates of the Lambussie constituency in Hamile Wednesday, Mr Eledi said it is clear there is a huge majority consensus in the NPP that Nana Akufo Addo represents the part's best chance of winning back power in the 2012 general elections.The NDC, on the other hand, he noted, appears bitterly divided on this issue. President Mills' popularity rating is seen as precariously low across the country and among the foot soldiers of the NDC. This, he believes, has motivated some party people to be preparing to contest the President in 2012.Mr Eledi juxtaposed President Mills' poor popularity ratings with Nana Akufo-Addo's impressive showing in his first presidential outing in 2008.“He contested for the presidency in 2008 for the first time against a candidate who had been on the presidential ticket since 1996 and managed to gain nearly 50% of the popular votes. This makes Nana [Addo] our best hope if we are serious about winning power in 2012,” he said.Mr Eledi told delegates that hard-earned years of political experience help a president to give confident and decisive leadership, referring to the difficulties that President Mills is going through. Nana Akufo-Addo, he recalled, has been in the front line of Ghanaian politics for 33 years.He described Nana Akufo-Addo as a principled politician who has the confidence and conviction to fight for Ghana on the global stage and the compassion to fight poverty whether in the North or through ensuring access to education for every Ghanaian child.He said Nana Akufo-Addo has the skills, vision, patriotism and confidence to rescue Ghanaians from the increasing hardships the current NDC administration is inflicting on them.Moreover, Mr Eledi said Nana had been through the mill and thus has acquired the requisite skills and maturity to inspire the nation towards prosperity, peace and greatness.“Everywhere you go Nana’s name is on the lips of people.
