The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has been dragged to court over the suspension of its Eastern Regional Chairman, Reverend Isaac Asante Wiafe.
In a suit filed at an Accra High Court, lawyers for the suspended chairman said their client was 'clandestinely' relieved of his position to prevent him from taking part in the upcoming CLOGSAG elections.
Reverend Asante Wiafe was suspended in December last year for an inappropriate behaviour after he held a meeting which the Association's national executives deemed illegal.
But he has dismissed the allegation as pure lies, saying it was calculated to have him replaced as Chairman of the Association in the Eastern Region.
He said on the day his suspension letter was issued, he had been invited to attend the CLOGSAG National Executive Council to discuss the Association's annual budget in Bolgatanga.
In the writ dated February 16, 2018, Reverend Asante Wiafe wants the court to make a declaration that the "purported decision of the EXCO is void abinitio or a nullity."
He has also called on the court to award 'cost' for the damage to his reputation as a result of the action by CLOGSAG.
Rev Asante Wiafe further wants the court to order his reinstatement to his former position as the Eastern Regional Chairman of the Association.
Again, the suit seeks an order for payment of GH¢4,000.00 being costs of transport and hotel expenses to Bolgatanga in 2017, and interests on the allowances, including any other costs.
