The Sekondi-Takoradi branch of Coalition of Concerned Teachers, has called for the resignation of the leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers within 72 hours. The ultimatum came at a press conference held in Takoradi on Tuesday. The chairman of the group, Patrick Dzebu expressed displeasure at the persistent failure of GNAT's leadership to adequately address the concerns and plight of the rank and file of teachers. He noted that GNAT has grossly failed to meet the demands of teachers on welfare, conditions and social status of teachers as well as the leadership's financial accountability to them. The secretary of the Coalition, Charles K. Baidoo, explained that the constitution of GNAT is outmoded and thus has become a protective shield for both the regional and national executives. He called for a review and greater involvement of the broader masses of teachers in the administration of GNAT and a publication of its financial statement to ensure transparency.
