Soft drinks giant, Coca-Cola is appealing for a reduction in the excise duties imposed on the industry.
The appeal was made by the visiting Group President, Ahmet Bozar when he called on Vice President John Mahama at the Castle on Tuesday.
He says the tax situation is putting extreme pressure on the finances of the company with serious implications for its workforce.
“We are really looking to find the sweet spot, meaning if you can find a reduction in the rate then you can actually increase the government revenue,” he said.
According to him the increase in excise duties was so radical and coupled with other factors of evaluation, it has affected the company's business.
He added that the government revenues are declining in spite of the increases in duties and pleaded that government reduce the duties.
The Vice President, John Mahama promised the government will consider the appeal.
He said he was involved in the change of the excise tax to an ad valorem tax under the agreement that the government will observe the changes in revenue and make the appropriate reviews.
He said after a thorough review later in the year, the government might consider the views submitted by Ahmet Bozar and if indeed revenues have been affected by the hikes in duties the appropriate measures will be taken.
The visiting Coca Cola boss also talked of a number of social corporate responsibility projects being undertaken by the company including the provision of clean water and some basic social amenities for about 50 thousand households.
