About 50,000 cocoa farmers have received a global standards certification for production of quality beans.The UTZ certificate is a code of accepted global conducts and standards for the production of the cash crop.The certificates were issued through an international development organization - Soilidiradad West Africa.Manager for Soilidiradad West Africa, Vincent Frimpong Manu told Joy Business “the certification practices are very strong on good agricultural practices. It helps in training the farmers for them to get this kind of skills and knowledge...”He said the certification also gives premium “because if the farmers commit time to this extra work…then the people who will buy their cocoa will be ready to compensate the farmers for the extra effort and for that quality assurance.”
