Security Analyst, Richard Kumadoe says the Police need to work hand-in-hand with other security agencies to curb domestic criminal activities.
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews' The Pulse, he said that the Police should consider agencies like the Bureau of National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to assist in the deployment processes.
“The police should collaborate more with other security agencies, particularly the NIB, where they will have the intelligence they need when it comes to crime prevention so that they could deploy the right people to the right places at the right time,” he said on Wednesday.
According to him, when the point mentioned above is done, “the police will have an edge when it comes to the general public and law enforcement and when it comes to public safety and national security in this country.”
He went on to say that when the criminals know the cops are out and about, they will relax, thereby reducing criminal activities.
“One of the things criminals look out for is once the Police become evasive and they have become defensive; then the criminals begin to dominate the general public. But once they see the Police becoming offensive, tactical, acting with intelligence, then you would see the Police will be winning the law,” he said.
He also said security is a crucial element that could help boost the public's confidence in the security; therefore, they ought to be proactive and cautious in their dealings.
“Security is a leadership issue and its leadership too, I think they must provide leadership, they must be more proactive, they have to be circumspect and taking the bull by the horn, addressing issues that border on public safety and national security or national sovereignty.
"It will go a long way to boost the morale of the young people then the community will also begin to trust the police particularly more who are at the fire front of this nation," he stated.
This follows a violent turf war between the youth of Nima and Maamobi which nearly led to bloodshed but for the intervention of the Police. Some wielded machetes as gunshots were fired, leaving onlookers running for cover.
Meanwhile, the Police have arrested seven suspects in connection with clashes in Nima, a suburb of Accra, on Tuesday.
The law enforcement agency is also searching for ringleaders for the two gangs involved; Kumordzi and Bombo.
