The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has admitted that the country is currently recording high numbers of Covid-19 cases.

According to the Service, the active cases being recorded amidst the fear of the spread of the delta variant is as a result of total disregard for the safety protocols put in place by the government.

Today on Newsfile, host, Samson Lardy Anyenini and his panellists dived into the situation accounting for the death of 819 persons as of July 19.

Still, on the issue of coronavirus, Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman Manu during a probe into the procurement of some Sputnik V vaccines from middlemen admitted to the fact that his outfit was unable to seek parliamentary approval due to the dire circumstance of the country.

In the Minister's own words, he was frustrated and treated the situation as an emergency. Also, Director of Legal Services at the Ministry, Inuah Yusuf confirmed to signing a $13 million contract with a healthcare firm, S. P. Global for the supply of Sputnik Covid-19 vaccines without seeking advice from the Attorney-General.

Although some bodies including the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have called for the resignation of the substantive Health Minister, the committee is yet to come out with its recommendations.

This controversial issue was also looked into on the show.

Finally, one of the many issues that has been the talk of town recently is the President's business trip to France, Belgium and South Africa.

This is because the incumbent government has been unable to account for the cost of this trip despite the Minority in Parliament alleging it came at a cost of £15,000 per hour.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta who was expected to respond to the matter told Parliament the National Security Ministry is best placed to provide the figures of the President's foreign trip.

The show also discussed the passing and tossing of accountability on the aforementioned issue.
