New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong may have put to an end speculation surrounding the source of his wealth by stating that common sense, hard work, determination and commitment are the secret to his wealth.
Mr. Agyapong revealed that his millionaire club status began when he coordinated 1987 USA visa lottery which was the first of its kind in the country.
According to him, the money he got from the proceeds helped him to invest in other interests. He said he made his first capital through an amnesty programme
Speaking to Adom News, Mr Kennedy Agyapong said at age 30, he had 9 houses in the country.
Recalling his struggle to fame, the outspoken MP said in 1995 he coordinated the American Visa Lottery in Ghana and the following year sent 2,500 people to the US. He said he earned about US$55,000 on that venture.
He admitted that, although he had a poor background, he began selling items like chewing gum and chocolates on the streets of Accra.
He recalled that during that time he sold items to his classmates who were traveling abroad to further their education.
After completing his 6th form, he started trading in spare parts from Accra to Lagos. He remarked that all the struggles on the streets have paid off through hard work and taking risk.
Kennedy Agyapong stated that he had lost count of his wealth as they are too much for him to recollect.
Commenting on how much he is worth, he directed that the exact figure is better known to his cousins and close associates but that he cannot remember.
The outspoken MP at age 50, bought Rolls Royce at a whopping 249,708 pounds sterling in April 2011. He has promised himself to buy a private jet at 55.
