Communications Consultant and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kobby Acheampong has challenged President Kufuor to open up his private residence to be scrutinised over allegations that the state paid $4 million for the refurbishment of the edifice.
The demand follows government’s repeated denial that the said amount had been dispensed by the state since 2001 on President Kufuor’s home.According Mr. Acheampong, a document he obtained from the architectural engineering services company proved the state used the said amount to renovate the President’s house to a residence befitting a president.“I have a source that gave those items to me, listed those items….if he thinks it is otherwise let newsmen to go there, the building is still standing, there facilities are still there… let people go into the house,” Mr. Acheampong demanded. However Deputy Information Minister, Frank Agyekum has debunked the claim but has thrown the challenge for the allegation to be substantiated but Mr Acheampong says his challenge to the President remains.
