The Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr Titus Beyuo wants effective measures put in place by government to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking to hosts, Kojo Yankson and Winston Amoah on Joy FM's 'Super Morning Show', Monday, he raised six points which when implemented according to him, would ensure the safety of Ghanaian citizens.
First, Dr Beyuo's charged health authorities and government to ensure they provide accurate and timely data, a major key to curb the spread of coronavirus.
He added that Ghana's risk communication must improve, hence called for the immediate end to the confusing signals.
This, he said, "They [data] must be consistent and everyone must be singing from the same hymn sheet. We need consistent and balance messaging. When Covid-19 started, we started preaching how severe it was.
"Ghanaians were scared and everyone was being careful. Then we started preaching calm and we overdid it. And now in the same breath, we want to tell these people that this is a serious situation and we select situations that are serious. Therese are confusing signals."
He argued that the implementation of protocols and policies must be revised and accompanied by an intense monitoring system.
Dr Beyuo noted the need for transparency, enforcement of laws and eradicating the politicisation of the country's fight against the pandemic.
According to him, citizens should be abreast of details on how Covid-19 vaccines would be acquired and distributed.
"We are yet to receive vaccines, by now, the communication on vaccines should be out by now. By now, we should know when the vaccines arrive in Ghana. Which people are taking the vaccines? In what order are we taking the vaccines? What kind of vaccines are we taking?" he asked.
He, therefore, called on government to return to earlier initiatives used in fighting he pandemic that made the country envy of many across the world.
