Controversy is brewing over the revocation of the licenses of 19 Courier Service companies by the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission. The commission cited the failure of these operators to utilize their licenses and their default in the payment of renewal fees.TNT Express World-Wide is among the affected operators and its new owners operating under the name, Stellar Express TNT Limited is however raising issues with the company’s inclusion in the list. The Company’s Human Resource Manager and Legal Advisor, Francesca Holdbrook-Smith explains to JOY BUSINESS, the commission got it all wrong.
“We have taken up the TNT Express franchise here in Ghana. But we are now known as Stella Express TNT limited. It is no more being operated as TNT Express Worldwide. We took over the franchise in July 2009.Now the mistake that has happened is that the Postal and Courier Service regulatory commission still has TNT Express Worldwide on their books, the name has not been change to Stella Express Limited. This has already cost them some clients.”She added that the development has already cost them some clients. Meanwhile, the commission admits issuing a certificate of operations dated January 02, 2012 to Stellar Express. Consumer Affairs Manager at the Commission, Emmanuel Arthur is however disputing any wrong-doing in withdrawing the company’s license.
“We licensed a company called TNT Express Worldwide and there has been some transaction between that company and some other company. So there has been a name change to Stellar Express TNT. Its no more TNT Express Worldwide. So for us, the company that we gave the license to TNT Express World doesn’t exist anymore and that is why we have revoked that license.“But there is another license that we have given to Stellar Express TNT which is functional and that we don’t have any problem with. So Stellar Express TNT is free to go about their courier operations. We are very minded by the position that we took. We are being guided by Act 649 and the licensing conditions”.
