The former vice presidential candidate of the NDC, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni says he will have difficulty convincing his supporters to continue to support the party.He said it was a challenging task to convince his supporters to see reason with the fact that he was not chosen.Alhaji Mumuni however denied remours that he is planning to resign from the NDC.“Resigning has never crossed my mind”, he told Joy News’s Mahama Shaibu.Explaining the difficulty in getting his supporters to still have faith in the NDC, Alhaji Mumuni said some of the people had taken entrenched positions on the matter.He said a lot of people expected him to have been nominated once again to partner Prof. Mills, flag bearer of the NDC and once their expectations were not met they felt disillusioned and disenchanted.The former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu however gave the assurance that he will do everything humanly possible to get his supporters to remain loyal to the party.“Long before the decision was made I mounted a campaign” to try and get all supporters of the NDC to accept whatever decision that is eventually made, he stated.Alhaji Mumuni who partnered Prof. Mills in the 2004 general elections was one of three persons who lobbied intensely for the vice presidential slot of the NDC.The other two were the Head of Legal and Constitutional Affairs at the Commonwealth Secretariat, Mrs. Betty Mould Iddrisu and the MP for Bole/Bamboi Mr. John Mahama.Mr. Mahama was selected by the presidential candidate of the NDC and unanimously approved by the National Executive Committee of the party.Following the endorsement, some supporters of Alhaji Mumuni threatened to defect saying they were let down by the leadership of the party which failed to consider the concerns of Muslims in the party.
