Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency of the Volta Region, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says the fight against corruption should not be left alone on the Special Prosecutor alone.

According to the former Deputy Education Minister, uprooting the canker must be the responsibility of every citizen if Martin Amidu’s Office will succeed in its mission.

“It would be such a disappointment if we just saw in Martin Amidu the panacea to this canker,” Mr. Ablakwa told Daniel Dadzie, host of the Super Morning Show on Joy FM, Wednesday.

Mr. Amidu endured over eight hours of exhausting grilling when he appeared at the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Tuesday, after which he reportedly got an overwhelming endorsement from the members.

It is a stated resolve by President Nana Akufo-Addo to make corruption an unattractive venture by setting up of the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

Amidu who proved a thorn in the flesh of the John Mahama-led NDC administration, becomes the first person to occupy the office.

He brings an applauded track record of fighting for the recovery of more than 50million cedis from a businessman, Alfred Woyome, at a time when the previous government was seen to be pussy-footing on what is now known as the judgment debt saga.

But the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP, Okudzeto Ablakwa, who served under the Mahama-led NDC administration wants Amidu to be given the needed support.

He said a key support from the people is the provision of information on corrupt practices “so that this whole fight against corruption should not be left to one man.”

The MP has observed, the functions of the office could face impediments if Amidu is kept out of the recruitment staff to fill the office.

He, therefore, appealed to the President, Nana Akufo-Addo to ensure Martin Amidu is consulted in the process of appointing officers “so that there will be no impediments on his way”.
