There has been low turn-out in Tuesday’s bye-election in Akatsi South in the Volta Region to elect a new Member of Parliament.Voting ended at 5:00 pm prompt and counting has started in earnest with the National Democratic Congress candidate, Bernard Ahiafor expected to beat his closest contender, Evans Gadeto who is an independent candidate. The Progressive Peoples Party’s Anthony Tsikata is also contesting but the NPP has boycotted the election.Speaker of Parliament Doe Adjaho whose elevation to the position as Speaker made the Akatsi South seat vacant was present in the constituency to cast his vote. He won the seat overwhelmingly in the 2012 General Elections.Doe Adjaho told Joy News the low turnout may be attributable to the New Patriotic Party boycott of the bye-election.He said the constituents, who are largely NDC supporters may not be anxious in casting their vote because the NPP is not taking part in the election. The results of the elections are expected to declared later in the evening
