A private legal practitioner Richard Kojo Acheampong and his wife, Joana Asare Acheampong, have funded and overseen the completion of essential facilities at their alma mater, Nkonya Senior High School in the Volta Region.

The couple donated a state-of-the-art 12-seater modern washroom facility and renovated a 10-cubicle modern bathhouse for the girls' dormitory.

The facilities, valued at over $30,000, were completed in four months and handed over to the school for immediate use.

At a brief ceremony held to commemorate the donation, the headmaster of Nkonya Senior High School, Mr Ansah Kwabena Moses, expressed profound gratitude to the couple.

The headmaster used the opportunity to appeal for support, as the school lacks a sick bay, education management software, and urgently needed renovations for dormitory blocks. Additionally, he emphasized the school's need for transportation infrastructure, including a pick-up vehicle for administrative use.

In his appeal for further assistance, Mr Moses urged individuals, organizations, and the government to support the school in addressing these critical needs.

He emphasized the importance of community involvement in fostering a conducive learning environment for the students.

Touching on the ongoing conflict between Nkonya and Alavanyo, Mr Moses reassured parents that the school remains a safe haven for students. Despite the proximity to disputed land, Nkonya Senior High School has never been directly affected by the conflict, ensuring the safety and security of its students.

In an interview with the media, Richard Kojo Acheampong expressed gratitude for the education he received at Nkonya Senior High School, emphasizing the pivotal role it played in his life.

He said after witnessing the deplorable condition of the school's facilities during a visit last December, he and his wife were moved to take action. Their donation not only addresses an immediate health concern but also underscores their commitment to giving back to their community.

Mr. Acheampong encouraged other individuals and corporate entities to join hands in supporting educational institutions, emphasising the collective responsibility to invest in the future of Ghana's youth.

He underscored the importance of private initiatives in complementing government efforts in the education sector.

Nkonya Senior High School (NKOSEC) was established in 1964 to provide secondary education to people in and around Nkonya by the chiefs and elders of the community.

Currently, the school boasts of  759,406 students and staff strength of 85.

The school has over the years improved greatly in academics and has produced  great minds who serve the country and beyond.
