A marriage counselor, Mrs Margaret Doku has advised couples to dwell more on the bright side of their partners, noting that this, coupled with prayers, was the key to a successful marriage.
She was addressing this year’s marriage seminar on Saturday as part of the 2011 Joy FM Beauty and Bridal Fair underway at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
Mrs Margaret Doku spoke on the topic ‘Tolerating your Partner’s Annoying Habits’.
She cited nagging, general untidiness, bad sleeping and eating habits as examples of behaviours that could draw couples apart.
The solution, Mrs Doku counseled couples to be in tune with Christ, pray and draw nearer to God. She also advised that couples desist from keeping their problems to themselves, but should rather share them through regular conversation.
She also asked couples to be sensitive to each others’ needs, know what works best for them, and maintain those behaviours for a harmonious relationship.
Mrs Doku stressed the need for couples to properly assess themselves as well as their partners when they are faced with challenges or problems to know the extent at which each is contributing to the problems, and find solution to them.
Nevertheless, she reminded the audience, at the fully-packed auditorium, that “Jesus is the answer” to all their problems.
She concluded her talk by quoting Philippians 4:8 which states: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.”
