A Kumasi High Court has dismissed a suit filed by some traders group at the Kejetia bus terminal to prevent the KMA and government from continuing a redevelopment market project it has started.
The group last month secured a court injunction to prevent the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly from relocating them to pave way for the market development.
The suit was part of several attempts to register their displeasure about how they have been handled by the Assembly.
In their suit, they questioned the addition of the terminal in the project claiming it was not included in the redevelopment plan initially approved by stakeholders.
They also argue the terminal has not been experiencing any fire outbreak like the central market to warrant its immediate demolition for redevelopment.
However, the Presiding Judge, Justice Richardson this morning dismissed the suit.
The court believes the traders failed to follow the needed procedural rules before coming to the court.
Parliament in 2014 approved a budget of 300 million US dollars for the reconstruction of the Kumasi Kejetia Central Market.
The project which is expected to be financed jointly by Brazilian government and a Dutchee Bank is in three phases and would be completed within five years.
Chief Executive Officer for the Assembly says the ruling is a victory for the people of Kumasi as it will pave way for the immediate takeoff of the market project.
Mr. Kojo Bonsu says the assembly has secured one thousand free shops for the affected traders for a smooth relocation.
