A circuit court at Fiapre near Sunyani has sentenced a 25-year old cobbler, Charles Amponsah to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for raping a 16-year old student at Odumasi near Sunyani. The accused pleaded not guilty to a charge of raping but was found guilty by the court and was sentenced accordingly.Deputy Superintendent of Police Kwasi Amoako told the court presided over by Mr. Osei Benjamin that on October 6, 2007 at about 1000 hours the victim’s mother, Madam Bertha Danso sent her to grind tomatoes. On her way back Amponsah lured her to his room and demanded to have sex with her but the girl resisted and in an ensuing struggle he forcibly had sex with her.DSP Amoako said Amponsah after the act locked the door and refused to allow her to go home until 1600 hours and back at home the victim narrated her ordeal to her mother. He said the mother reported the matter to the police and on his arrest Amponsah stated that the girl was his girlfriend but that was the first time he had sexual intercourse with her.Source: GNA
