Nicholas Gyekyey, a 22-year-old galamsey operator, alias “Town Boy” has been remanded into police custody by the District Magistrate Court in Enchi for allegedly murdering his wife, Erica Ocansey.
His plea has not been taken, and he would re-appear before the court on Monday March 2, 2026.
The prosecutor, Police Detective Chief Inspector Joseph Kwadwo Agyare told the court, presided over by Mr. Lawrence Buanor-Buer, that Gyekyey and the deceased, who was 18-year-old were residents of Takyikrom near Achimfo in the Aowin municipality.
He said the deceased lived with her mother-in-law and had a four-month-old baby with Gyekyey.
According to him, at about 2100 hours, on February 13, 2026, the deceased went to her father-in-law’s residence, where Gyekyey resided with his brothers.
Detective Chief Inspector Agyare said the two got into an argument in the house after the deceased demanded for money from him.
He said Gyekyey told the deceased he did not have the amount she was demanding but had a little cash in his Momo account to give her for the time being.
Prosecution said the deceased, who knew the accused person’s Personal Idenfication Number (PIN), collected his mobile phone, and tried to access his MTN Momo account, but it was blocked without the deceased knowing he had changed his pin.
He said Gyekyey became offended and assaulted the deceased as if he was under some sort of spell, went for a stone and smashed it multiple times on the deceased’s head.
He said a neighbour who caught Gyekyey in the horrific act raised an alarm, but he bolted from the scene when he noticed his presence.
Detective Chief Inspector Agyare said the deceased was rushed to the Achimfo Clinic and later referred to the Enchi Government Hospital, but she died on the way.
He said the police arrested Gyekyey on February 14, 2026, around 0430 hours, while heading to Achimfo and was handed over to the police.
