Ghana's Covid-19 active cases have shot up to a total of 5,524, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reported.
This is a sharp rise of about 1,003 cases in a spate of seven days after President Akufo-Addo last addressed the nation on Sunday, July 25, 2021. Then, active cases stood at a total of 4,521.
Since the outbreak of the virus, the country has recorded a total of 104,330 cases. Out of this number, 97,970 have recovered.

The country's death toll also stands at a total of 836.
Eighty-six cases are severe while 17 persons are in critical condition.
The development is largely a result of the import of the Delta variant and the gross disregard of the Covid-19 safety protocols.
During his 26th address to the nation on the virus, President Akufo-Addo confirmed that the country is witnessing its third wave of the pandemic.
He urged the citizenry to strictly comply with the protocols as it is the surest way to bring the virus under control.
