Zoomlion Ghana Limited has donated GHS120, 000 (approximately $20,000) to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.
According to the waste management giant, the donation is aimed at boosting the capacity of Noguchi, which is a major Covid-19 testing centre in Ghana.
Speaking at the donation ceremony on Friday, Head of Communications at the Jospong Group of Companies, the parent company of Zoomlion, Sophia Lissa, commended scientists and staff at Noguchi for their sacrifice and job they are doing for the country in the wake of the global crisis.

“We know stories of countries that are not reporting much, and it’s all because they don’t have what it takes to do it and our top people in Noguchi, the scientists have put their lives on the line and are doing this for the nation and I think, as a company, we want to commend them and that is what has informed our decision this morning to respond to their call for support to do what they are doing and to do it best,” she said.
Host of Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere, played an important role in securing the support for Noguchi.
Director of the Noguchi Memorial Institute, Prof Abraham Kwabena Annan, received the cash donation on behalf of the institute and thanked Zoomlion for the support.

He emphasised the need for collaboration in the fight against the pandemic, revealing that Noguchi, with support from the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP) at Legon, is able to do close to 3,000 testings per day.
“That is a major achievement and it has all being possible because of the partnerships that we have been able to put together,” he said.
