After over 25 days of its launch, more than 1000 people have subscribed onto the Covid Connect service system aimed at offering people remote Covid-19 care.
The app which was developed by the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) and PharmAccess Foundation, enables users to access coordinated care without trooping to the hospital.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UGMC, Dr Darius Osei, expressed his excitement by the public’s response toward the Luscii application.
“We’ve managed to get 1000 active users of this software which is very encouraging. I would like on my behalf and management, to thank the active members of staff that have put in a lot to hit this milestone,” he said.
He reiterated that the goal is to gain 5000 users by the end of 2020.
JoyNews’ Komla Adom interacted with a Covid-19 patient, Francis, who has shared his experience of using the COVID Connect app.
According him, a doctor friend introduced him to the software after he lost his sense of smell.
He added that it was after answering some questions on the app that he realised he may have contracted the virus.
“After I had registered, I was asked a few issues that had to do with coronavirus. I answered the questions and from time to time, they’ve been contacting me to find out how I’m doing,” he admitted.
Francis is currently receiving treatment and is steadily recovering after being confirmed positive for carrying the virus.
When asked if he had no fear of suffering stigma, he advised that, “the virus is no respecter of persons and there is no need to stigmatise.”
The system was launched in April 2020 and can be accessed through the Luscii application on Google Playstore and app store.
