The Convention People’s Party (CPP) says it is opposed to the sale of government bungalows in the Volta Regional capital of Ho.The party says government must halt sale of the 105 buildings, insisting selling them will not be in the interest of the public.Director of Communications for the CPP Kosi Dedey speaking to Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoe said the sale which is soon to start must stop because the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) had in time past opposed similar sales in Accra on the sale principle."The NDC...questioned why government was selling government-owned houses to private individuals. When government goes to a people and acquires land to build pub houses and then turns round to sell these houses to private individuals it is a breech of faith," he emphasised.He alleged that highly reduced prices were being called for the buildings, a situation he says is unacceptable.The houses located at a prime location in the town are low cost buildings rented out to civil servants in the regional capital.But the CPP communications director insists if the NDC goes ahead with the sale it would be a breach of public faith.Responding to the CPP’s concerns, Volta Regional Minister Joseph Amenewode told Joy News although no sale has yet be made, government is still considering the best options in handling the matter.He indicated that government had decided to sell the bungalows because they were in bad shape.Mr Amenewode confirmed the buildings are still being occupied by tenants who still default in paying rent charges.Story by Fiifi Koomson/Myjoyonline.com
