The Convention People's Party's (CPP) National Delegate Congress slated tentatively for May 27 to 29 is in danger as some constituency executives from the Central Region have declared their intention to take a legal action against the organizers of the congress. A petition to the National Chairman filed on behalf of the aggrieved executives by Adastra Chambers on Tuesday called on the party to restrain "the regional executive from organizing a congress in contravention of the CPP Constitution". The petitioners contended that "the mandate of the present Constituency Executive ends in September, 2011, and we cannot understand why the National Executive is in such a mad rush to organise the constituency elections. "The constituency executives holding office as at now therefore should continue to be at post and perform their functions until and after the party's National Congress," the petitioners said. "Any attempt to allow the regional executive to organise the constituency elections would be resisted fiercely within the ambit of the CPP Constitution and the laws of the country." The petitioners also accused the regional executive of working in the interest of a parallel political organisation, Movement for Social Justice. "It is the considered opinion of the Constituency Executives that the conduct of the regional executive would completely destroy the party." The petition was jointly signed by Chairmen, Secretaries, Organisers, Women Organisers and some leading members of the party from the 19 Constituencies in the region. The Constituencies are: Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese; Agona East; Agona West; Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam; Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa; Assin North; Assin South; Awutu-Senya; Cape Coast; Effutu; Gomoa East; Gomoa West; Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem; Mfantseman East; Mfantseman West; Hemang Lower Denkyira; Twifo-Atii Morkwaa; Upper Denkyira East and Upper Denkyira West. The CPP has fixed May 27 to 29 as the tentative dates for its National Delegates' Congress to elect National Executive Officers in which the current Chairman Mr Ladi Nylander is not contesting.Source: GNA
