Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, the 2008 Presidential Candidate of the Convention Peoples' Party (CPP, has announced that the party is introducing reforms to make it attractive to the youth ahead of the 2012 general election. He noted that with more than 10,000 fans on the social network Facebook whom he interacts with on regular basis, he is going to sell the CPP’s policies. Dr Nduom made this known at Fijai when he interacted with CPP Constituency executives in the Western Region at the weekend. According to him, the national executives of the party also interact regularly through the Internet to share ideas about how to move the party forward. Dr Nduom said the CPP is the best alternative to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC), since the two parties had failed to better the lot of Ghanaians. He added that even though the electorate were disappointed with the NPP and NDC administrations, it was not automatic that they would vote for the CPP in 2012, stressing that if the party failed to put its house in order by avoiding acrimony and mudslinging and work as a united front, it would remain in opposition forever. He urged the constituency executives to be united and pull their resources together to support the party to capture power in 2012. He said he was prepared to support the party financially even though he had not been elected flagbearer for the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections and asked others to do emulate the example in the best interest of the CPP. "I have already contributed in various ways to support the national executive committee and I'm prepared to do more to make the party more vibrant and attractive to the electorate," he said. Dr Nduom charged the party faithful in the region to win more people into the party, especially the youth and women saying: "We can win political power by winning more people into our fold and therefore you should stop tagging new members that, they don't belong to us." He said the Western Region was very important to the CPP since it was the only place which had consistently voted for the party's parliamentary and presidential candidates since 1992. "It is the region we have a Member of Parliament from at the moment and has done so over the years and we should endeavour to make it our stronghold in the 2012 general election." Dr Nduom advised the party supporters not to repeat the mistakes made in the 2008 general election and work assiduously to win power. Touching on the 10 per cent demand by the Regional House of Chiefs from the country's oil revenue, Dr Nduom said the area deserved more than 10 per cent, as the nation was indebted to it because it had contributed more resources to the development of the nation than any other region. He called on the government to invest in the region with the revenue from the oil and gas sector in order to appease the people. The Regional Chairman of the CPP, Mr Samuel Gordon Etroo, said the party would put in place appropriate strategies to win 10 seats in the 2012 general election. He also stressed that the CPP was the best party to govern the nation after Ghanaians had tested the NPP and NDC and added that the party would soon elect party wardens and follow it up with constituency elections. Mr Etroo noted that the CPP had good policies that could rescue the economy from economic doldrums and make Ghanaians happy again, as it happened under the administration of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President.
