Interior Minister, Mark Woyongo says the level of crime rate in the country is still unacceptable, despite the general decrease in all forms of crime.
According to Mr. Woyongo, the situation poses a risk to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) as well as Tourism and the general security of the public.
The Interior Minister made the remark Tuesday, at the opening of the mid-year sector performance review workshop at the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training Center, in Accra. The two day review meeting is under the theme “Promoting Organizational Efficiency and Effectiveness Towards Improved Sector Performance”.
It hopes to strategize on how to bring the crime rate under control and also get the necessary resources from government to undertake their operations.
Recent statistics shows significant drop in crime rate but Mr. Woyongo assured his outfit will do everything possible to ensure Ghana remains the most preferred country to visit and transact business.
“The Ministry is mindful of the fact that the crime rate has been declining…However, it is still at an unacceptable level,” Mr. Woyongo told the meeting which is being attended by heads of agencies under the Interior Ministry.
He therefore charged heads of the various sectors to remain focus in ensuring that issues of public safety are attended to with the seriousness they deserve.
“Therefore, while the state is making a strategic choice to reflect on national aspirations by providing the Ministry and its agencies with the basic budgetary requirements to enable the sector deliver on its mandate, we owe it a duty to take stock of our performances against our targets,” he prompted the security chiefs”.
