The Swiss special prosecutor has commenced criminal proceedings against Fifa President Gianni Infantino.
A special prosecutor was appointed last week to look into dealings between Infantino and the Swiss Attorney General Michael Lauber - who last week offered his resignation - over an undisclosed meeting in June 2017.
A court concluded last week that Lauber had covered up the meeting and lied to his supervisors while his office investigated corruption allegations surrounding the football governing body.
Special prosecutor Stefan Keller, who was appointed to review criminal complaints against the two men as well as others involved, found indications of criminal conduct related to the undisclosed meetings, the authority overseeing Switzerland’s federal prosecutors said on Thursday.
Both Infantino and Mauber have previously denied wrongdoing. The Independent had contacted Fifa for comment from Infantino.
Criminal proceedings have also been commenced against the chief public prosecutor of Upper Valais, Rinaldo Arnold.
