The long running dispute in the Obuasi Constituency of the opposition New Patriotic Party could take a new twist Saturday as the party starts vetting its parliamentary aspirants. The Member of Parliament for Obuasi Edward Ennin is threatening to boycott the exercise if someone he described as an “illegal” member of the vetting committee was not removed.Problems in the Obuasi NPP started last year leading to the resignation of the entire membership of the council of elders. The MP is accusing some leading figures of the party of trying to sidestep the directive of the regional council ordering that new constituency elections be held.“Some of the party’s top gurus are trying to play tricks here,” Mr Edward Ennin told Joy News, insisting that if the illegality is not checked it would go a long way to affect the party’s flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, whom he said, was fighting hard to bring unity into the party. But National Chairman of the NPP, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey tells Joy News the party will look into a petition filed by one of the factions in the ongoing saga, before a decision could be taken regarding when to conduct the constituency elections.“In all fairness we must be seen to be looking into, not to dismissing peoples’ concerns without thought.”He assured that the national steering committee would meet and consider the complaint raised, adding that the party would not like to wash its dirty linen in public.“These are things within the party and must be settled within the party…it would not be solved over the radio, it would be solved inside Obuasi, and inside Kumasi.”Story by Joy News/Myjoyonline.com
