Veteran journalist Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has said there is nothing wrong with teaching school children to tolerate LGBT lifestyles as it is supposedly envisaged in the controversial Comprehensive Sexuality Education.
The Editor-In-Chief of the Crusading Guide newspaper said “you ought to preach this and inculcate in our kids because we are all against mob justice.”
Government has suffered backlash over supposed plans to introduce Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) in schools.
One of the goals of the CSE guidelines is to teach school children to “nurture positive attitudes” such as “open-mindedness”, the “concept of gender”, develop “non-judgmental attitudes” and “respecting gender differences.”
Reports of the supposed plan has been criticized by Ghana’s largely conservatives soceity and parents who see a subtle plan to condition students to explore lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) lifestyles.
But speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile Saturday, Kweku Baako said he is “not alarmed” about the plans.
He said there is a “deliberate distortion” on Comprehensive Sexuality Education and an attempt to make a caricature out of it.
Baako insisted CSE is about values like tolerance. “They are not being taught to become gays or emulate their character.”
He said he found same-sex attraction strange but nonetheless everyone must have the capacity to tolerate them. The veteran journalist called the controversy a “non-issue”.
