Ghanaian rapper and songwriter Curtis Opoku, known in showbiz as Curttix, delivers a poignant message in his latest single, which delves deep into the cycle of human existence and the relentless hustle of survival.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Curttix indicated that the song came about from him being skeptical about life.
"It reflects on the delay-filled survival path of man. Even after acquiring all the things we desire, we still die and leave them behind. And to even get all that you want in the first place is hard,” he said.
At the heart of the song is the chorus, built around the Ghanaian slogan "Paa ooh Paa," commonly used to describe the daily hustle — from the President to the everyday laborer. Curttix creatively uses palm wine, known for its strong scent and the flies it attracts, as a metaphor for risky, undesirable work.
“Assuming you’re a laborer and you’re called to pick up a load of palm wine — despite the smell and flies, because you need money, you carry it,” he explains.
This metaphor captures the gritty reality of daily work that many endure just to survive.
The song doesn’t just speak about work — it captures the full spectrum of life: being born, growing up, marrying, building a home, and navigating all the highs and lows along the way. It is both a lament and a tribute to the perseverance of the human spirit.
