The Regent of the Dagbon Traditional Area, Kampakuyana Abdulai Yakubu Andani has told The Chronicle that his major challenge since his installation as a regent is how to change the, "irresponsible behaviours some Dagbon youth," who largely think little of peace and stability.According to the Regent, he was highly disappointed in the youth who are the future of the Dagbon State always allowing the few unscrupulous and narrow-minded influential leaders mostly politicians to use them as main contraptions for violent conflicts and destructions in the area for their selfish interests.Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle newspaper in Tamale, Kampakuyana lamented that though he was making efforts to reform the youth, majority of them still cherished accepting guns and other weapons from such blinkered leaders for their own anni¬hilation.The Kampakuyana, a proud son of the late King of Dagbon, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, declared an inflexible war against such leaders whose actions and inactions sought to thwart the efforts of the government, the Committee of Eminent Kings and other stakeholders in rebuilding peace in Dagbon.The Regent also unveiled plans to change the minds and attitudes of the youth to enable them resist or shun any appalling move or pressure by such bad leaders to cause mayhem. "The youth are my main problem because after several efforts, people who are mostly political leaders are using them and buying guns for them to cause problem in Dagbon.“So I am working on how to mould the youth to become responsible citizens rather than gunmen causing tension and anarchy all over Dagbon. The Kampakuyana denied the longstanding rumour that there was no peace in Dagbon.According to him, he could insist without fear that Dagbon was currently witnessing the best of peace, unity and tranquility but what was left at the moment, the Regent noted, was infrastructural development.He therefore called on the government and other investors to come to the aid of Dagbon to reduce poverty and hunger, which was seen as one of the major challenges militating against the people in the area.The Dagbon Regent was in Tamale for an important meeting with the Northern Region House of Chiefs.Culled from The Chronicle.
