A national executive officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called former President Jerry Rawlings to order regarding the latter’s continuous attacks on almost every move of President Atta Mills.
Danny Anang, a National Vice Chairman of the NDC has described Rawlings’ attacks on Mills as a proxy war to take absolute control of the party as well as government.
He told The PUBLISHER that it is only an ungrateful person who does not mean well for the NDC that would behave the way Rawlings has.
He said Rawlings was hiding behind these criticisms of the President and campaigning for his wife, Nana Konadu, to become the 2012 flag-bearer of the party.
“Just last week in Tamale after he (Rawlings) had spoken about the Ya-Na judgment, his wife’s campaign T-Shirts were distributed to the people; this is pure undermining of the President’s ambition. The President served you with all his heart and if this is his reward from you and your family then it is disheartening.
“Less than two years of Mills becoming President, Rawlings’ wife is contesting for flag-bearership. They have denied this but when he said Nana Konadu would not contest the man he has employed, Rawlings cannot speak for the wife and he did not say anything. We would work for Mills and I know by the grace of God we would be victorious,” Mr. Anang noted.
Touching on accusations from Rawlings that Mills had lost touch with the party’s foot soldiers, Danny Anang said it was far from the truth and that the former President should not behave as if all was well with every NDC member when he was the president of Ghana.
“Some of us are cadres and I know a lot of cadres who did not have jobs for 19 years plus that Rawlings was in power. So it beats my imagination why anybody in this party would expect the Mills Administration to solve all the unemployment challenges among our party members within two years; if inciting people against the President over this is not an act of undermining him then what else could this be?
“NDC cadres did not receive special treatment during the 19 years of his rule and yet we worked hard for his re-election in 1996 and everybody contributed. Instead of us uniting and doing the same so we stay in power, people would not work for his success rather they are working for his downfall and yet claim to love the NDC more than anyone in Ghana,” added Danny Anang.
Mr. Anang noted further that it would be hypocritical for Rawlings or anyone to conclude that Atta Mills is in bed with the Convention People’s Party (CPP) because the current Finance Minister, Kwabena Duffuor has CPP roots.
According Danny Anang, Rawlings himself while he was President of Ghana appointed the same Kwabena Duffuor as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and yet that was not enough grounds to say Rawlings had gone the CPP way.
