A large number of mourners, made up of family, friends and sympathizers, turned up at the Ridge Church in Accra to pay last respects to the late leukemia patient, Danny Whyte.
His mortal remains were interred at the Osu Cemetery following a burial, memorial and thanksgiving service at the Ridge Church where loads of tearful tributes eulogized his principles as a generous and selfless fighter the world will forever miss.
The late Danny Whyte set up a Trust – DWIB - for the establishment of a bone marrow register, after he was diagnosed with leukemia.
His campaign created a lot of awareness in Ghana and in the international community about the disease.
Among the sympathizers was President J.A. Kufuor, a great fan of the late Whyte. President Kufuor was part of official functionaries to launch the DWIB Trust in March 2005.
Born on March 10, 1970, Danny died on May 22, 2007 at the Kings College Hospital in London.
‘I celebrate your life in the knowledge that nothing is by coincidence. You had a mission to accomplish, and you played your part remarkably….All I can do is swallow the pain as I bleed and take solace in the words “Let it be, there will be an answer, let it be”, and Pray to God for the ability and strength to proceed and carry on. I love you,’ read part of a tribute by his mother, Mrs Joana Welsing-Crabbe.
And for the Trustees of the DWIB, ‘The chapter of Danny Whyte’s life may have been decisively closed by his death, but we shall continue to turn the pages of the chapter of his enduring legacy… Danny charges us all to hold his dream and to keep the flame of hope burning for leukaemia victims of African descent. This is a charge that we, as trustees of DWIB, solemnly pledge to keep.’
Danny Whyte, who died single, is survived by four children.
