The Awutu Senya DCE is raising the alarm over what he says is an imminent clash with a revenue collection taskforce from the Ga South Municipal Assembly if the Local Government Ministry does not immediately intervene in a boundary dispute between the two districts. Adams Nuhu, DCE for Ewutu Senya, said his colleague Sheriff Dodoo has recruited “typical landguards” and integrated them into the Ga South Municipal guards to terrorise and brutalise residents of Kasoa. At least eight people got injured during clashes between taskforces of the two assemblies Thursday. There are reports that residents in communities in the disputed area including Iron City, Adam Nana Dokukye Kope and Amuzu Kope are mobilizing themselves in self defense. Adams Nuhu told Joy News’ Eric Ahianyo that the situation is getting out of control, and insisted that the area in question falls under the central regional lands commission. “They don’t operate within our jurisdiction, but these guys will charge two million (GH¢200), then they will negotiate one million (GH¢100) or 500,000 cedis (GH¢50), take the money without receipt and pocket it. “So we thought they are actually perpetuating a criminal activity in that area, and they are not necessarily working for the state or community as well.” Mr Nuhu said previously when a similar incident occurred, he sat down with the Ga South Municipal Chief Executive where they “mapped up a strategy so that we will not create inconveniences to the residents”. He also stated that the two chief executives once met the regional ministers of Central and Greater Accra regions and a committee was set up to do due diligence and report back, but nothing has been heard since then. Meanwhile, the Minister for Local Government, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has said the problem arose when new districts were created, admitting that there were “few challenges as far as boundary disputes were concerned”. He promised to “quickly” look into the current issue. In the meantime, Mr Ofosu Ampofo said his Ministry was considering setting up an account for revenue collected from the disputed area until the impasse is resolved.
