A court injunction has restrained members of the Atwima Nwabiagya District Assembly in Ashanti from carrying through a planned vote of no confidence in the District Chief Executive.
Nineteen assembly members had filed a motion to impeach Nana Asare Bediako for non-performance and breach of procurement procedures, a charge the DCE denies.
The aggrieved members met at the assembly on Monday to impeach the DCE.
However, the Assembly Member for Kobeng-Seidi, Kwaku Acheampong obtained an injunction from a Kumasi Circuit Court for stay of execution, pending an investigation into alleged forgery of his signature on the motion.
There was uneasy calm as supporters of the DCE besieged the assembly, in the presence of heavy police while assembly members deliberate on the court order.
NDC supporters who besieged the assembly carried the DCE shoulder high after hearing a bailiff had served a notice for stay of execution.
The assembly hall got tensed when the 17 assembly members insisted on going ahead to impeach the District Chief Executive.
But their hopes were dashed when the Presiding Member adjourned sitting in respect of the court injunction.
The Presiding Member, Anthony Ansah told Nhyira Fm an emergency meeting can only be called after the 10-day injunction.
The number of members calling for the DCE’s impeachment should also reach one third, about 18 members.
Nana Asare Bediako has denied the allegations leveled against him.
He expressed his readiness to work together with his accusers to move the district forward in development.
